The closest thing we offer to our original frameless design, which was thru-hiked on the Appalachian Trail over 20 years ago. The Nero is streamlined and compact, offering only the most essential features for the thru-hiker. Made from durable Ultra 100X fabric with waterproof taped seams, it's ready for anything nature throws at it. The green and pink versions use Ultra TenX for an added pop of color.

• The body is constructed from 3.3 oz/sqyd Ultra 100X fabric; the pink version uses 2.9 oz/sqyd Ultra TenX for added color. Ultra fabric features a woven face of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) laminated to a 0.75 mil waterproof backing, providing superior abrasion and tear strength, making it the toughest fabric we offer.
• Ultra fabric is inherently waterproof, PFAS-free, and requires no DWR or other chemical treatments.
• All seams and stress points are taped to make the pack highly water-resistant. We still recommend using a dry bag or pack liner for important items like clothing and sleeping bags.
• Our most popular size, the 40L, is large enough to carry 3-5 days of supplies with ultralight gear for a thru-hike.·
• The 40L fits easily into an overhead bin and can be cinched down to fit under a seat if the top is rolled down small.· Use the included top strap to lash items to the top of the pack, or upgrade to the Nero V Top Strap for heavier items like bear canisters. The strap is removable when not needed.
• The roll-top closure allows the pack to compress as your load lightens. Side compression cords further cinch down the volume and can also be used to carry trekking poles or an umbrella in the side pockets.
• Choose from a variety of interchangeable shoulder straps. Our straps are comfortably padded with 3/8” closed-cell foam and backed with 3D mesh for airflow and cushioning. Webbing loops allow for accessory attachment, and the sternum strap adjusts vertically for a perfect fit.
• The 40L version has three hipbelt positions to allow vertical movement of the optional webbing hip belt to accommodate different torso heights; the 30L version has one hipbelt position. The optional webbing hip belt is 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide and adjusts up to approximately 50 inches (127 cm) in circumference. Padded hip belts are also available.
• Generous side pockets can each hold up to two 1-liter water bottles. The pockets are positioned low and angled forward for easy access. They feature drain holes at the bottom and elastic cinches at the top.
• A large center shock cord mesh pocket is super handy for items you need to access quickly, like a rain jacket or snacks, and also allows wet clothes and gear to dry out.
• A hydration tube can exit from the corner of the roll-top closure and be secured by the webbing loops on the shoulder straps.
• Multiple loops are available for optional attachments, such as top side pockets, shock cord lashing systems, and ice axe loops.
• Includes a closed-cell foam sit pad, measuring 11 x 15.5 inches (28 x 39.4 cm), which adds 1 oz of extra weight to the pack. The foam pad provides some back cushioning and support. The sit pad is secured by shock cord and can be quickly removed for breaks. Both the shock cord (0.3 oz / 8.5 g) and sit pad are removable and replaceable.
• The shock cord can also be re-threaded to accommodate a folded sleeping pad or a taller sit pad up to 20 inches.
