About the Development Background
While engaging in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, trail running, and valley trekking for a long time and wearing sunglasses, I had the opportunity to try various types of sunglasses due to my profession. However, the more I used them, the more "it would be great if..." issues and ideas emerged.
For example:

① I wanted something that could effectively block strong mountain sunlight, but without the half-face covering sporty design; something suitable for everyday use.
② I wanted lenses that wouldn't easily tire my eyes even after wearing them all day and were convenient for outdoor environments.
③ I wanted sunglasses that wouldn't easily slip off or shift during strenuous exercise.

Niho is a new series of outdoor-specific sunglasses developed to solve these problems.

Main Features
One-touch detachable side shield structure ~ Professional use in the mountains, comfortable wear in the city ~

Most outdoor sunglasses adopt a wraparound, sporty design to block light penetration, which often makes people hesitate to wear them in the city.

Niho features a one-touch detachable side shield (hereinafter referred to as "shield") structure, achieving a design that can be actively worn not only during mountaineering but also in daily life. (Patented structure)

＜Shield OFF＞: Normal use state. A light design suitable not only for outdoor scenes but also for wearing in the city. Good breathability, also recommended for situations where you sweat easily.

＜Shield ON＞: When the sun is strong or on snowy mountains, installing the shield can reduce glare during mountaineering and prevent wind and snow from entering, allowing for use similar to goggles.

Lens Features
Carefully selected polarized lenses, and thin and lightweight lenses (common to all models)

We believe that "polarized lenses," which can reduce glare and diffuse reflection, are the best choice for outdoor activities. Niho's lenses have the following features:

① Clear vision provided by polarized lenses
General colored lenses only reduce the amount of light, while polarized lenses, in addition to this, also reduce "reflected light and dazzling light."

② Specially made thin and lightweight polarized lenses (made in Japan)
Utilizing the unique special injection molding technology of a Sabae manufacturer in Fukui Prefecture, a thickness of 1.5mm has been achieved. While ensuring strength, the weight is reduced by approximately 20% compared to other companies' 1.8mm to 2.0mm thick lenses, resulting in a comfortable wearing experience.

※ This is a weight comparison in an uncut state. The lightweight effect is even more significant as the lenses are for both left and right sides, not just one side.

③ Water-repellent coating & anti-reflective coating

Both sides of the lens are treated with a water-repellent coating. This repels rain and sweat from the lens, and fingerprints and other smudges can be easily wiped away.

The back of the lens is treated with an anti-reflective coating to reduce reflected light and glare when light enters from inside the sunglasses.

④ High impact resistance
Made of polycarbonate material with excellent impact resistance. Polycarbonate has excellent impact resistance, even used in bulletproof shields, and is lightweight, making it ideal for outdoor use.

⑤ Lens color lineup best suited for mountaineering and outdoor activities
Due to the effect of the polarizing filter, polarized lenses do not need to be as dark as general colored lenses to effectively reduce glare. Therefore, using lighter colors allows for clear vision not only during the day but also in darker scenes like dusk, enabling continuous wear while protecting the eyes from UV rays and obstacles.

※ General mountaineering lenses are often dark, with visible light transmittance around 15% to 20%; Niho, however, offers a variety of light-colored lenses with a visible light transmittance of 30% to 34%. Regardless of lens color, all block 99.9% of UV rays.

＜About this lens＞
~Most suitable for dark scenes like trail running, valley climbing, and urban wear~
Achieving such a light color with such high polarization is a rare and distinctive feature of these lenses. The lens color is an "ultra" light pale gray.
In dark scenes like trail running in wooded areas, valley climbing, or cloudy days, when you feel "light reflection and UV rays are a bit bothersome," the visibility becomes surprisingly clear. Unlike dark polarized lenses, the advantage is that the field of vision does not become black and dark.

Because it's an "ultra" light color, you can wear it naturally like ordinary glasses, and when wearing sunglasses in the city, you don't have to worry about being seen as trying to look cool. From outdoors to indoors, you can comfortably protect your eyes from UV rays all day long.

On the other hand, in very strong light scenes (such as sunset or sunny snowy mountains), these lenses cannot completely eliminate glare (but still much better than bare eyes...).
Since the pros and cons of these lenses are very clear, they are recommended as a "next pair" for those who already own regular polarized sunglasses. They are ideal lenses for experiencing the benefits of polarization in dark scenes.

——Additional explanation (about light-colored polarization)——
These lenses were developed after years of collaboration with a Sabae lens manufacturer, who kindly created them based on our request for "lenses like this." Due to their extremely light color, strictly speaking, they cannot be classified as polarized sunglasses under JIS standards (polarization degree must be 90% or higher), but their value is very close to JIS standards (polarization degree 87%), so you can experience a polarizing effect comparable to other polarized lenses.
When driving in dark conditions or in the rain, the field of vision does not darken, and the polarizing effect clarifies blurred vision, contributing to safety.

Frame Features
Minimizes light penetration. Sunglasses that won't easily slip off during strenuous exercise and are comfortable to wear
Compared to lenses, frame design often receives less attention, but we believe it is crucial for comfortable wear. Niho's frames have the following features:

① Top shield structure that minimizes light penetration
The role of sunglasses is to prevent light from entering. However, shapes that wrap around the face like sports sunglasses are difficult for daily use... Therefore, we have installed a shield "above" to block light entering from overhead. When viewed from the front (when others see them), the design is suitable for daily use, while minimizing light penetration, aiming for a balance of design and functionality.
② Fit adjustment mechanism for face size
Addressing the concern of sunglasses slipping during strenuous activity in the mountains. We have incorporated a fit adjustment mechanism in the ear-hook part (rubber part). The temples use elastic material (TR-90) to achieve a comfortable fit, but you can also bend the rubber part inward or outward according to your preference, for example, "I want to widen them because I have a large face," "I want to narrow them because I have a small face," or "I want to tighten them for strenuous activity."
※ Please absolutely do not bend them at right angles or perform extreme or repeated bending. The standard range is approximately ±30 degrees outward or inward from the initial position.
③ Fit adjustment mechanism for nose bridge size
The width and height of the nose bridge vary among users (e.g., men and women). This can accommodate needs such as: widening/narrowing the width based on nose width, or creating distance if the lenses touch eyelashes.
※ Please absolutely do not perform extreme or repeated bending, as this may lead to metal fatigue. The standard range is within 5mm in the left/right and height directions from the initial position, with no more than 5 bends. The illustration shows NH-101.
④ Dedicated hole for attaching eyewear straps
A hole is provided in the ear-hook part for attaching anti-loss eyewear straps. In addition to commercially available products, thin strings or cords with a diameter of no more than 2mm can also be used as eyewear straps. You can attach strings with your favorite patterns.
※ For improved comfort, please position the knot on the outside.

About Accessories
Includes a microfiber cloth that doubles as a storage pouch
A storage pouch is included to protect the sunglasses from dirt and scratches. When the lenses get dirty, you can use this pouch to wipe them. The structure allows for separate storage of the sunglasses body and the shield, preventing lens scratches. (A storage pouch matching the sunglasses design is included.)

※ When carrying sunglasses, please store them in a place where they won't be crushed, such as the rain cover of a backpack.

※ The storage pouch can be hand-washed when dirty.
