Niho: Outdoor sunglasses that walk with you, step by step.
~ Re-examine the answers to the world you see ~
If there's a world you can't reach alone, you can go there with Niho.
Niho does not chase fleeting trends or technologies, but rather perceives the "two steps ahead" challenges that even users haven't noticed yet, and are outdoor sunglasses that advance together with the user.
About the development background
While engaging in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, trail running, and valley trekking for a long time and wearing sunglasses, I had the privilege of trying various types of sunglasses due to my profession. However, the more I used them, the more I discovered many issues and ideas like "if only it were like this."
For example:
① I wanted a style that could effectively block the strong sunlight in the mountains and fields, but wasn't a half-face covering sports design; instead, something suitable for daily use.
② I wanted lenses that wouldn't cause eye fatigue even after wearing them all day, and would be convenient to use in outdoor environments.
③ I wanted a pair of sunglasses that wouldn't easily slip or shift even during strenuous exercise.
Niho is precisely a new series of outdoor sunglasses developed to solve these challenges.

Main Features
One-touch detachable side shield structure ~ Professional use in the mountains, comfortable to wear in the city ~
Most outdoor sunglasses are designed to wrap around the face to block light intrusion, which often makes people hesitate to wear them in the city.
Niho adopts a structure where the side shields (hereinafter referred to as "shields") can be detached with a single touch, achieving a design that can be actively worn not only during mountaineering but also in daily life. (Patented structure)
For details on how to attach and detach the shield, please refer to the video.

Lens Features
Carefully selected polarized lenses, and thin and lightweight lenses themselves (common to all models)
We believe that "polarized lenses," which can reduce glare and diffuse reflections, are the best choice for outdoor activities. Niho lenses have the following features:
① Clear vision brought by polarized lenses
Ordinary colored lenses only reduce the amount of light, while polarized lenses, in addition to that, also reduce "reflected light and glare."
② Specially made thin and lightweight polarized lenses (Made in Japan)
Using a unique special injection molding technology from a Sabae manufacturer in Fukui Prefecture, a thickness of 1.5mm has been achieved. While ensuring strength, the weight is reduced by approximately 20% compared to other companies' 1.8mm to 2.0mm thick lenses, resulting in a comfortable wearing experience.
* This is a weight comparison for uncut lenses. Lenses are not single-sided but double-sided, so the lightweighting effect is even more significant.
③ Adopts waterproof coating & anti-reflective coating
Both sides of the lens have a waterproof coating. Rain and sweat that adhere to the lens can be repelled, and fingerprints and other smudges can be easily wiped away. An anti-reflective coating is applied to the back of the lens to reduce reflected light and glare when light enters from the inside of the sunglasses.
④ High impact resistance
Uses polycarbonate material, which has excellent impact resistance. Polycarbonate has excellent impact resistance, even used in bulletproof shields, and is lightweight, making it ideal for outdoor use.
⑤ Lens color lineup most suitable for mountaineering and outdoor activities
Due to the effect of the polarizing filter, polarized lenses do not need to have a very deep color like ordinary colored lenses to effectively reduce glare. Therefore, using lighter colors, the field of vision will not be too dark not only during the day but also in dim scenes such as dusk, allowing continuous wear while protecting the eyes from UV rays and obstacles.
* General mountaineering lenses are mostly dark, with a visible light transmittance of about 15% to 20%; while Niho offers a variety of light-colored lenses with a visible light transmittance of 30% to 34%. Regardless of the depth of the lens color, 99.9% of UV rays are blocked.
~ Most suitable for trail running, valley climbing, and other dim scenes, as well as urban wear ~
With such a high degree of polarization, achieving such a light color is an extremely rare feature of these lenses. The lens color is an "ultra" light gray.
In dim scenes such as trail running in wooded areas, valley climbing, or cloudy days, when you feel "light reflection and UV rays are a bit concerning," your vision will become surprisingly clear. Unlike dark polarized lenses, the advantage is that the field of vision does not become black and dark.
Because they are "ultra" light-colored, you can wear them as naturally as ordinary glasses, and you don't have to worry about being seen as trying to look cool when wearing sunglasses in the city. From outdoors to indoors, you can wear them all day for easy UV protection.
On the other hand, in very bright light scenes (such as sunset or snowy mountains on a clear day), these lenses cannot completely eliminate glare (but still much better than bare eyes...).
Since the pros and cons of these lenses are very clear, they are recommended as a "next pair" for those who already own conventional polarized sunglasses. They are ideal lenses for experiencing the benefits of polarization in dim scenes.
——Supplementary explanation (regarding light-colored polarization)——
These lenses were developed over several years, with the kind cooperation of the manufacturer, after requesting "such lenses" from a Sabae lens manufacturer. Due to their excessively light color, strictly speaking, they cannot be labeled as polarized sunglasses as defined by JIS standards (which require a polarization degree of 90% or more), but their values are very close to JIS standards (polarization degree 87%), so you can feel a polarizing effect no less than other polarized lenses.
When driving in dim scenes or in the rain, the field of vision does not darken, and the polarizing effect clarifies blurred vision, which also contributes to safety.
Frame Features
Sunglasses designed to minimize light intrusion and prevent slipping during strenuous activity, while providing a comfortable fit.
Compared to lenses, frame design often receives less attention, but we believe it is crucial for a comfortable wearing experience. Niho frames have the following features:
① Top shield structure that minimizes light intrusion
The purpose of sunglasses is to prevent light from entering. However, shapes that wrap around the face like sports sunglasses are difficult for daily use... Therefore, we placed a shield "above" to block light coming from overhead. When viewed from the front (when others see them), the design is suitable for daily use, while minimizing light intrusion, aiming to balance design and functionality.
② Fit adjustment mechanism to adapt to face size
To address the concern of sunglasses slipping during strenuous activity in the mountains, we have introduced a fit adjustment mechanism in the temple arms (rubber part). The temple arms are made of elastic material (TR-90) for a comfortable fit, but you can also bend the rubber part inward or outward according to your preference, for example, "I want to widen the width because my face is large," "I want to narrow the width because my face is small," or "I want to tighten them because of strenuous activity."
* Please absolutely do not bend them extremely or repeatedly, such as bending them at a right angle. The standard range is approximately ±30 degrees outward or inward from the initial position.
③ Fit adjustment mechanism to adapt to nose bridge size
The width and height of the nose bridge vary depending on the user (e.g., male or female). This allows for adjustments to address needs such as: wanting to widen/narrow the width based on nose width, or wanting to increase the distance if the lenses touch the eyelashes.
* Please absolutely do not bend them extremely or repeatedly, as this may lead to metal fatigue. The standard range is within 5mm in the left/right and vertical directions from the initial position, with a maximum of 5 bends. The illustration shows NH-101.
④ Dedicated hole for attaching eyewear straps
A hole for attaching an anti-loss eyewear strap is provided in the temple arms. In addition to commercially available products, thin strings or cords with a diameter of up to 2mm can be used as an alternative to eyewear straps. You can attach a string with your favorite pattern.
* For improved comfort, please place the knot on the outside.
