Niho: One step, two steps, outdoor sunglasses that walk alongside you
~Re-examine the world you see, and find the answer before you~
If there's a world you can't reach alone, you can go with Niho.
Niho is not about chasing fleeting trends or technologies, but about discerning issues "two steps ahead" that users haven't even noticed, and accompanying them with outdoor sunglasses.

About the Development Background
Having engaged in outdoor activities such as mountaineering, trail running, and valley trekking for a long time while wearing sunglasses, I was fortunate enough, due to my profession, to try various types of sunglasses. However, the more I used them, the more "if only it were like this" issues and ideas emerged.
For example:
① I wanted something that could effectively block strong mountain sunlight, but without the bulky, face-covering sports design. I wanted a style suitable for everyday use.
② I wanted lenses that wouldn't easily cause eye fatigue even when worn all day, and that would be convenient for outdoor use.
③ I wanted a pair of sunglasses that wouldn't easily slip or shift even during intense activity.

Niho is a new series of outdoor sunglasses developed to solve these very problems.

Key Features
One-touch detachable side shield structure ~ Professional use in the mountains, comfortable wear in the city ~

Outdoor sunglasses often feature a wrap-around, athletic design to block light, making people hesitant to wear them in urban settings.

Niho incorporates a one-touch detachable side shield (hereinafter referred to as "shield") structure, allowing for a design that can be actively worn not only during mountaineering but also in everyday situations. (Patented structure)

<Shield OFF>: Normal use. A light design that is easy to wear not only in outdoor settings but also in urban areas. Good breathability, also recommended for situations where you might sweat easily.

<Shield ON>: When installed in bright sunlight or on snowy mountains, the shield can reduce glare from sunlight and prevent wind and snow from entering during climbing, allowing for goggle-like usage.

For details on how to attach and detach the shield, please refer to the video.

Lens Features
Meticulously crafted polarized lenses and thin, lightweight lenses (common to all models)

We believe that "polarized lenses," which can reduce glare and scattered reflections, are the best choice for outdoor activities. Niho lenses have the following features:

① Clear vision provided by polarized lenses
While ordinary tinted lenses only reduce the amount of light, polarized lenses also reduce "reflected light and glare."

② Specially made thin and lightweight polarized lenses (Made in Japan)
Utilizing unique special injection molding technology from a Sabae manufacturer in Fukui Prefecture, a thickness of 1.5mm has been achieved. While ensuring strength, the weight is reduced by approximately 20% compared to other companies' lenses of 1.8mm to 2.0mm thickness, leading to a comfortable wearing experience.
* This is a weight comparison of uncut lenses. Since there are left and right lenses, the weight reduction effect is even more significant.

③ Water-repellent coating & anti-reflective coating
Both sides of the lenses are treated with a water-repellent coating. This repels rain and sweat from the lenses, and fingerprints and other smudges can be easily wiped away.
An anti-reflective coating is applied to the back of the lenses to reduce reflected light and glare when light enters from the inside of the sunglasses.

④ High impact resistance
Made of polycarbonate, which has excellent impact resistance. Polycarbonate is extremely impact-resistant, even used in bulletproof shields, and is lightweight, making it ideal for outdoor use.

⑤ Lens color lineup best suited for mountaineering and outdoor activities
Due to the effect of the polarizing filter, polarized lenses can effectively reduce glare without needing to be as dark as general tinted lenses. Therefore, by using lighter colors, the field of view does not become too dark not only during the day but also in dim conditions such as dusk, allowing continuous wear while protecting eyes from UV rays and obstacles.
* General mountaineering lenses are often dark, with a visible light transmittance of around 15% to 20%; Niho offers various light-colored lenses with a visible light transmittance of 30% to 34%. Regardless of lens color, 99.9% of UV rays are blocked.

<About these Lenses>
~ Best for trail running, valley climbing in dim conditions, and urban wear ~
Achieving such light colors with such a high degree of polarization is an extremely rare feature. The lens color is an "ultra" light gray.
In dim conditions such as trail running in wooded areas, valley climbing, or cloudy weather, when you feel "light reflection and UV rays are a bit bothersome," the vision becomes amazingly clear. Unlike dark polarized lenses, the advantage is that the field of view does not become black or dark.

Because it is "ultra" light-colored, it can be worn naturally like ordinary glasses, and when wearing sunglasses in the city, you don't have to worry about people around you thinking you're trying to look cool. From outdoors to indoors, you can wear it all day long for easy UV protection.

On the other hand, in very bright conditions (such as sunset or sunny snowy mountains), these lenses cannot completely eliminate glare (but are still much better than bare eyes...).
Since these lenses have very clear pros and cons, they are recommended as a "next pair" for those who already own regular polarized sunglasses. They are ideal for experiencing the benefits of polarization in dim conditions.

——Supplementary explanation (regarding light polarized lenses)——
These lenses were developed over several years with the cooperation of a lens manufacturer in Sabae after we proposed "we want lenses like this." Due to their extremely light color, strictly speaking, they cannot be labeled as polarized sunglasses defined by JIS standards (which require a polarization degree of 90% or more), but their values are very close to JIS standards (polarization degree 87%), so you can feel a polarizing effect comparable to other polarized lenses.
When driving in dim conditions or in the rain, the field of vision does not darken, and the polarizing effect clarifies blurred vision, which also contributes to safety.

Frame Features
Minimizing light intrusion. Sunglasses that don't slip easily during intense exercise and are comfortable to wear.
Compared to lenses, frame design often receives less attention, but we believe it is crucial for a comfortable wearing experience. Niho frames have the following features:

① Top shield structure that minimizes light intrusion
The purpose of sunglasses is to prevent light from entering. However, a wrap-around shape like sports sunglasses is difficult for daily use... Therefore, we placed a shield "above" to block light entering from overhead. When viewed from the front (by others), it's a design suitable for daily use, while also minimizing light intrusion as much as possible, aiming to balance design and functionality.
② Fit adjustment mechanism to suit face size
Addressing the concern of sunglasses slipping during intense activity in the mountains. We have incorporated a fit adjustment mechanism in the temple tips (rubber part). The temples are made of elastic material (TR-90), achieving a comfortable fit, but you can also bend the rubber part inward or outward according to your preference, for example, "I want to widen it because my face is large," "I want to narrow it because my face is small," or "I want to tighten it because I'm very active."
* Absolutely avoid extreme or repeated bending, such as bending at a right angle. The standard range is approximately ±30 degrees outward or inward from the initial position.
③ Fit adjustment mechanism for nose bridge size
The width and height of the nose bridge vary among users (e.g., men and women). This can accommodate needs such as: wanting to widen/narrow the width based on nose width, or wanting to increase the distance if lenses touch eyelashes.
* Absolutely avoid extreme or repeated bending to prevent metal fatigue. The standard range is within 5mm left/right and vertical from the initial position, with no more than 5 bends. The illustration shows NH-101.
④ Dedicated hole for attaching eyewear cords
A hole is provided in the temple tips for attaching anti-loss eyewear cords. In addition to commercially available products, thin strings or cords with a diameter of no more than 2mm can be used in place of eyewear cords. You can attach a string with your favorite pattern.
* For increased comfort, please place the knot on the outside.
